How PS Kenya is redefining digital safety during the 16 Days of Activism and beyond

In today’s world, violence against women and girls no longer happens only in physical spaces. Increasingly, it has shifted onto screens, appearing in comment sections, direct messages, viral posts and anonymous accounts. Digital violence has become one of the fastest-growing threats to women’s safety, mental health and participation online. For many survivors, online harm does not end when an app is closed. It follows them into their homes, their workplaces and their emotional wellbeing.

As digital access grows, so does the urgency to confront digital gender-based violence with the same seriousness as offline abuse. This is why, during the 16 Days of Activism 2025, PS Kenya launched Orange Your Feed, a digital movement designed to turn social feeds into safer and more empathetic spaces for women and girls.

Digital violence is often dismissed as ordinary online behaviour, yet global evidence shows that it has real consequences. Victims face increased anxiety, depression, withdrawal, loss of confidence and in some cases self-harm. Women and girls in Kenya encounter cyberbullying, body shaming, impersonation, non-consensual image sharing, online stalking and harassment, often with limited options for support or justice. Online harm is real, widespread and deeply gendered.

Orange Your Feed responds to this reality by using visual storytelling, youth culture and community participation to shift social norms. The campaign encourages individuals to post orange-themed content paired with personal pledges for digital safety, transforming the feed into a space of solidarity and accountability. It also makes activism accessible, visible and participatory.

Through this campaign, PS Kenya uses digital advocacy as a tool for prevention, awareness and system-level change. Orange Your Feed educates the public on the impact of digital violence, mobilises individuals to protect women online, amplifies survivor-centered messaging and promotes responsible digital citizenship. It provides practical tools for reporting harmful content and supporting survivors. In doing so, PS Kenya demonstrates a strong understanding of how modern violence manifests and how modern solutions must respond.

The early response shows that Kenyans are willing to take a stand when provided with the right language and platforms. As timelines fill with orange pledges, online behaviour shifts, digital norms evolve and women and girls gain a safer environment in which to participate and express themselves. The impact extends beyond visibility. It strengthens a movement of allies committed to creating safer digital spaces long after the campaign is over.

PS Kenya’s work in gender equality and digital safety reflects broader global development priorities, including digital inclusion, mental-health protection, and the safety of women and girls in evolving online environments. The Accelerate program, funded by the Embassy of Denmark in Kenya, strengthens survivor pathways, enhances community awareness, and builds systems that protect women both online and offline while also educating them on their sexual and reproductive health and rights.

As a leader in public health and social impact, PS Kenya offers partners a unique opportunity to collaborate with an organisation that uses digital innovation as a powerful tool for change. Our work strengthens digital safety awareness, enhances access to accurate information and equips communities with the skills needed to navigate an increasingly online world. Investing in technology-driven solutions allows PS Kenya to shape safer digital environments where women and girls can participate confidently and without fear. This commitment reflects an institution that is forward-thinking, adaptive and deeply aligned with the realities of a digital generation. Our approach ensures that protection, empowerment and meaningful engagement extend into the online environments where people live, learn and connect every day.

For PS Kenya, Orange Your Feed is not an isolated campaign. It represents our growing commitment to explore and champion innovative approaches that make digital spaces safer and more supportive for women and girls. As digital platforms increasingly shape how people learn, connect and express themselves, PS Kenya recognises the opportunity to collaborate with partners who are advancing digital protection, digital literacy and responsible online engagement. We are ready to contribute our experience, community reach and public-health expertise to interventions that strengthen digital wellbeing and promote safer online ecosystems. Our dedication extends well beyond the 16 Days of Activism because the need for safer digital spaces continues every day, and PS Kenya stands prepared to be an active partner in shaping that future.

Orange Your Feed is only the beginning. Let us build safe digital spaces together.
