Ending GBV, Expanding SRHR Access with Accelerate

The Accelerate Program, funded by the Embassy of Denmark in Kenya, is the first of its kind to integrate Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) interventions.

Implemented across 13 underserved counties, the program advances Kenya’s ICPD+25 commitments of zero unmet need for family planning, zero preventable maternal deaths, and zero GBV and harmful practices. Delivered through a consortium of Population Services Kenya (PS Kenya), Gender Violence Recovery Centre (GVRC), and Population Services International (PSI), Accelerate ensures that women, adolescents, and survivors of violence access dignified, holistic care where it is most needed.

Our Focus Areas

1.SRHR and GBV Integration

  • Training health workers to deliver SRHR and GBV services at the same service point.
  • Ensuring survivors of GBV/SGBV receive timely screening, support, and referral without stigma.
  • Providing person-centered care through a fully integrated model.

2.Capacity Strengthening

  • Regular CMEs, mentorship, and supportive supervision for providers across all 13 counties.
  • Equipping service providers with updated skills in SRHR, GBV response, and adolescent care.
  • Driving demand generation campaigns to increase uptake of modern contraception and post-GBV care.

3.GBV Response and Prevention

  • GVRC clinics offer medical-legal support and survivor-centered services.
  • Engagement with Court Users Committees to enhance access to justice for survivors.
  • Training police officers and health workers in 21 counties on GBV case management.
  • School-based interventions (e.g., Kings and Queens clubs) to shift norms and prevent SGBV.
  • Standardized GBV data tools rolled out to shelters across 13 counties.

4.Advocacy and Policy Engagement

  • Active participation in TWGs and national forums (RMNCAH, AYSRH, Anti-FGM, Gender Sector).
  • Supporting development of GBV shelter policies and SOPs.
  • Contributing to the review and launch of the National GBV Policy.

5.Knowledge Sharing and Convening

  • PSI leads research, learning, and dissemination at national and county levels.
  • Sharing best practices in SRHR and GBV at national, regional, and global conferences.
Breaking Barriers, Restoring Dignity

For too many in Kenya, family planning remains out of reach and gender-based violence a daily reality. Accelerate changes this by bringing SRHR and GBV care under one roof, ensuring survivors and adolescents receive compassionate, integrated support.

Through partnerships with counties, communities, and national systems, Accelerate is shifting norms, strengthening health systems, and empowering women and girls to make informed choices and live free from violence. By tackling SRHR and GBV together, the program builds a future where dignity, equity, and health are rights, not privileges.

Building Futures with Girls at the Center

Adolescents face unique challenges, stigma, misinformation, and restrictive norms that can limit their health and choices. A360 transforms this reality by placing girls at the heart of the solution. By amplifying their voices and partnering with communities, PS Kenya creates pathways for healthier, more empowered futures where every girl can thrive.
