ASKA – WhatsApp Chatbot for HIV Self-Testing

To improve access to HIV self-testing (HIVST) services, PS Kenya developed ASKA, a WhatsApp chatbot that offers users private, judgment-free support throughout their HIV self-testing journey. ASKA provides step-by-step kit guidance, result interpretation, and referrals to prevention, confirmatory testing, or treatment services.

Scope of Work

Making HIV Self-Testing Accessible Through:

  • Step-by-step guidance on using HIVST kits correctly
  • Risk assessment and prevention advice
  • Locating WHO-prequalified kit outlets (physical & online)
  • Connections to confirmatory testing and HIV prevention services
  • Hotline contacts for counseling and mental health support

Piloted across urban and peri-urban settings with digital outreach in Nairobi and selected campuses, expanding access to young people where they already seek services.
