A BRIEF HISTORY
Ebenezer Health Care Plus clinic is located in Kisumu Ndogo area, Malindi region. It is owned and operated by Joshua Kamwaji Chengo, a nurse/midwife by profession. Chengo began his career as a nurse in 1989 after graduation from the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC). He started his own private facility, offering a few promotive, preventive, and curative services. The provider achieved his long-term plan of making the facility a nursing home. The facility has since been upgraded to a three-story building with the capacity for inpatient services.
In 2009, Ebenezer Care Clinic joined the Tunza Family Health Network franchise to benefit from the value proposition offered by the franchise in quality assurance, marketing, and family planning commodity supplies.
To date, Chengo has been trained on Family Planning – Long Acting Reversible Contraception (FP-LARC) and certified as competent and proficient in offering LARC services. Additional training for him and his staff includes:
- Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) and Malaria Case Management.
- Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment
- Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (BEmONC) includes
- Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Testing Services, including Care and Treatment
- Youth Friendly Health Services
INFRASTRUCTURE AND STAFFING
Ebenezer Health Care Plus consists of several service areas, including a waiting bay, consultation room, an observation ward, a delivery/procedure room, and a laboratory.
The facility is licensed under the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board (KMPDB) and licensed to operate for 24 hours.
Staffing personnel include: • 2 Nurses
- There are two clinical officers.
- 1 laboratory technician
- Two casual staff
SERVICES OFFERED
The facility caters to about 650 clients a month, with a majority being children under 5, being treated for diarrhea, malaria, and acute respiratory tract infections.

- Safe Maternal Services: (Antenatal Care (ANC), Delivery, and Post Natal Care (PNC)

MARKET
Most of the clients are from the middle-income class as they are employed in various government offices and others are businessmen. The nearby referral hospitals include: Malindi Sub County Hospital, which is about five kilometers away; Star of the Sea, which is about two kilometers away; and Tawfiq Hospital, which is less than a kilometre away.
VISION
He is currently working on his succession plan as the daughter graduated from Medical School with a degree in Nutrition and works at the facility as the CEO
